    Description

If you are not familiar with James Vick’s Floral guides, this is a great starting point. Vick
produced between 10 and 12 issues of his garden magazine from the first issue in January,
1878 until his death in 1891. Each of the 10-12 monthly issues, were hard bound for all those
years. The Floral Guide we offer is the first issue from the first volume of his magazines.
These magazines come up for sale now and then. But most offered have condition issues. The
example we have for sale is in at least very good plus condition and most will call it excellent. The
9 by 6 1/2” format has one truly spectacular chromolithography plate in it, as issued.  There
are some creases to the cover with a tiny nick at the edges, very few wear points. The spine is 98%
complete and very tight, as issued. The inter-leave between the plate and text is very good. Few
survive this amount of time since published: typically found with flea bites and damage. The 32
page volume is primarily dedicated to flowers with a nice set of advertisements pertaining to any
thing remotely connected to gardening, landscape or nursery practices. Unusually nice copy. I do
have a couple hard bound issues for sale. A wealth of knowledge in every issue.
    Thank you for visiting, Karl
