Description
Seller: Alley-AntiquesDESCRIPTION: Wonderful large 19th Century Seed Poster. This is from Briggs & Bro's Seedsmen and Florists in Rochester New York and is dated 1875 (pic #4). You could purchase this in 1875 or if you spent .00 in Briggs seeds it was a free premium. It was a great way to advertise their products. It is hard to see in the pics but near the bottom it lists the names of the flowers printed in the chromolithograph(hard to picture as it has faded a bit and is small). This seed poster is in a period walnut shadowbox frame that has its original wavy glass. Old framers label on back (last pic). It was matted long ago following the shape of the printed chromo. The matting is more of a cream color than pictured as the flash brighten it up a bit. This is over 140 years old. Fair to good condition for age. Has slightly darkened toning from age. Colors have some fading. Upon close inspection you may notice light creases, wear, and rubbing. Chromo has been matted long ago. I have not had it out of frame to inspect under matting. Chromo is in period walnut shadowbox frame with wavy glass. Cardboard backing. Frame has wear and scuffing as expected on a piece of this age, Overall measures about 27 1/2" X 22 1/4" (frame included in measurement). Shipping total includes insurance. US only on this due to size.
